Students enrolled in this eight-week online course will learn (or review) the basics of a traditional creative writing workshop. This includes producing a piece of writing on a weekly basis which will be shared with the other workshop participants, who will then provide a thoughtful, written response with helpful feedback for the writer. In addition, participants will be assigned short readings to supplement their learning and be given short, tailored craft lessons (e.g. dialogue, plot, pacing, characterization, etc.) to improve their writing in preparation for publication. Moreover, students will also have the opportunity to publicly present their work at a special COLLAGE online reading at the course’s conclusion. This two-hour online workshop is designed for anyone who may have a limited literary background or writing experience or for more established writers seeking to get feedback on their work and join a vibrant writing community. For the most successful experience, previous writing experience is not required, but recommended.

TESTIMONIALS from recent workshops: This class felt like Kismet to me. Carlos as a teacher was the perfect mix of touchy/feely, supportive and nurturing person mixed with great organization, specific goals, thought out curriculum, excellent resources provided and holding us and himself to timelines and objectives. I loved the format of the class, and Carlos' writing prompts were perfect for the personal goals I had in taking the class- to leave writings as an "Ethical Will" for my children/grandchildren. I am thrilled with my experience, and I love my writings that came out of it! Thank you!!

Carlos is a warm, encouraging and kind teacher who was well prepared right from the start. He explained the course format clearly up front. He was punctual and prepared every week. I felt that he created a safe space where students felt comfortable sharing from the heart. This was helpful for me to feel comfortable in writing openly and very personally. I loved the small intimate class and discussions. I would definitely recommend him as a teacher and this course.
